Install on Windows
First install: use a tagged emulator release (msvc.zip on Assets when listed). For the newest automated build, use CI → Continuous Build (Windows…) → x64 .zip (MSVC and/or Clang).
After download
Short path: extract → add empty user folder next to the .exe → run the executable → first-time setup.
Open emulator releases (pick the latest dated tag) or CI releases → Continuous Build (Windows…).
Under Assets, download the x64
.zip— names often includemsvcorclangtron.Extract the archive to a short path (e.g.
C:\Tools\Citron).In that folder, create an empty directory named
user. This keeps data portable and avoids reusing an old Citron profile; you get a clean first-run flow. Skip only if you mean to share an existing profile — see first-time setup.Run the Windows executable in that folder (often Citron.exe — use the actual name in your archive). If SmartScreen blocks: More info → Run anyway, only when the file came from
github.com/citron-neo.If Windows reports a missing Microsoft Visual C++ runtime, install the latest x64 redistributable.
Keys, firmware, game directories: first-time setup. Upstream: emulator readme.
Want the newest build?
Use CI nightlies when you already know the risks of frequent updates. For calmer updates, stay on tagged emulator releases — see Releases.
